Milestone South provided transport planning advice for a proposal comprising the re-development to provide 120 residential units (Use Class C3) in buildings ranging from 4 to 10-storeys, with 13 car parking spaces (including car club and accessible provision), communal landscaped amenity areas, secure cycle parking and other associated development.
MTP demonstrated that the development proposals, which involved the loss of parking, situated in the New Road Car Park would not have a detrimental impact on other nearby public car parks and on-street parking conditions along the local highway network. A comprehensive range of parking accumulation and ‘stress’ surveys were undertaken to assess the current usage of existing on and off-street parking opportunities within walking distance of the site. The results of the surveys revealed that there was ample spare capacity to accommodate existing demand. A multi-modal trip assessment demonstrated that development proposals would lead to a substantial reduction in vehicular traffic movements over the course of a typical weekday in comparison with the site’s existing operation. Consequently, the development proposals would have a positive impact on the operation of the surrounding local highway network. Planning approval was successfully obtained on 1st October 2018.
