Assistant Transport Planner
What is Chis responsible for?
For supporting project leaders in the delivery of work, through preparation of reports, undertaking highway impact assessments and the design work for new accesses and developments.
Where is he based?
Transport to work?
Usually travel to work by train, but drive in at least one day a week.
Top of ‘In’-tray?
Queensway, Bletchley – A Transport Statement supporting an application for a residential development to the rear of shops in the town centre of Bletchley.
Best aspects of job?
Bringing together all the components that make up the project and bringing it to final completion. This requires teamwork, good communication and discussion throughout. It’s always rewarding when it’s signed off and the client is satisfied with our achievements.
The variation in work, and the need to prioritise workloads, as new jobs / tasks arise.
What is the most important transport issue today?
Handling the steady growth in passenger numbers on Britain’s railways which is causing services to run at over-capacity, and fixing the broken rail franchising system, which lacks the direct competition needed between operating companies, in order to ensure a higher quality of service and better value for money for the railways.
How do you relax?
Go out for an off-road cycle ride – as long as it’s not raining!
To work in the heritage railway sector or be involved in the re-opening of old railway lines.
